Morning Routine For A More Productive Day

How you start your morning can affect your productivity throughout the day. Having a morning routine can help you become more successful, make wiser choices and reinforce positive behavior. Here are a few tips that will help you tackle the day and hopefully reduce your stress.

 

Wake up and Stretch:

I recently started to incorporate stretching into my morning routine. Attempting to exercise so early in the morning can be quite the challenge. I'm not a morning person, so the thought of having to perform any type of physical activity doesn't seem appealing to me. With stretching, all you need is a few minutes to feel the benefits such as improved posture, increased blood flow and a boost in energy.

Give Gratitude:

I start and end my day with my gratitude journal. I write down three things I'm thankful for first thing in the morning, as well as three intentions I have for the day. I noticed that focusing more on my blessings rather than the things I can't control, helps me improve my outlook for the day. Research has shown that by simply keeping a gratitude journal—regularly writing brief reflections on moments for which we’re thankful—can significantly increase well-being and life satisfaction.

Skip the Shower:

If you're anything like me, you probably value sleeping in an extra 15-30 mins in the morning. I prefer to shower at night instead. I love the feeling of going to bed fresh and clean and knowing that all the sweat from the day and from my evening work out will not be all over my sheets. Gaining that extra time in the morning makes a big difference and allows me to take my time getting ready, versus being in a rush to get out the door. My to-do list is nothing fancy, just a piece of paper with a motivational quote to pump me up for the day. I keep it simple with no more than five items on it. If your list is too long, you spend more time stressing out about how you haven’t tackled item #15, then actually focusing on accomplishing your goals. You use too much energy and mental stamina keeping track of, and feeling bad about, all the things you haven’t done. This negative thought pattern tends to hold you back and make you much less productive.

Meditate:

With only 10 mins you can transform your whole day thanks to meditation. Meditation helps center your thoughts and gives you a sense of calm, peace and balance that benefits both your emotional state and overall health. Since I'm fairly new at meditating, I prefer using guided meditations. Luckily, there are many great apps available for your phone that guides you through the whole process. Within one week of meditating, you'll feel and notice the difference in your productivity level and focus.

If you ask me, adding a pop of color can enhance any outfit- even if you're dressed casual. Pairing a colored purse and matching lips makes the perfect accessory to what you're wearing without really trying.

I used to own only black and tan purses but soon realized how necessary expanding my color scheme was to my fashion style. Anything in the red color family is the best place to start- then you can work your way to more funkier colors.

When it comes to fashion, I like to keep it simple and classy.

Recently, I've been into the mid skirt trend. I love the length of wearing pants but in a cute skirt form. You can normally find me in jeans but sometimes it's nice to dress up and play around with different styles.

I paired this polka dot midi skirt with a white off the shoulder top and added a gold chocker and hoops to bring the look together. I tucked in the top to showoff the skirt a bit more since it was too long to wear untucked. A nice white bodysuit would look nice as well.

10 Tips For The Perfect First Date

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, date nights are in full effect. For some, it's their first date with the person. As we all know, first dates can be exciting but also nerve wrecking at the same time. So many thoughts go racing through your head before the date even starts.

3. Be Confident: The number one quality that most people find attractive is confidence. The way you present/express yourself can either make you seem interesting and appealing or cocky and boring. 7. Don't Overshare: As much as it feels like you've known the person for years and are extremely comfortable with them, be careful on sharing too much too soon. As mentioned before, first dates should be light and fun. Serious topics should be left for later down the road. For now, laughing and having a good time is the only thing you should be worried about on your first date. Nothing more, nothing less.

8. Don't Drink Too Much: No one like a sloppy drunk... ever! Your standards, your morals (and quite possibly your clothes) are lost when you've had too much to drink. And as tempting as that may sound to some, getting drunk on a first date is not the smartest idea.  A good number for the night should be two. There is no need to drink more. Besides needing to be alert in order to hold an intelligent conversation, you also need to be cautious of your surroundings. Never be too impaired that you lose sight of your good judgment for the night. 

9. Show Respect: Always maintain respect for yourself and others. Set boundaries and make your intentions clear on the first date. If you're enjoying yourself great- show gratitude and express interest. If you're having an awful time, please have the common courtesy of treating your date with dignity and respect. The person probably spent a lot of time and money taking you out, the least you can do is stay the entire time. If a second date is suggested, politely decline. Never make anyone feel inferior or bad about themselves. Rejection is never easy but as long as you're honest and respectful, the person will understand and respect you even more.

10. Date, date, date! If the date went well, go on another one. If the date went horrible, go on another one (not with the same person-obviously). Just date! Whether you're looking to build a connection with someone or trying to find your life partner, you'll never find them if you're stuck at home.

Be confident, respectful and enjoy the dating experience. At the end, you'll either find someone amazing or have fun horror stories to share with your girlfriends over a big glass of wine. Either way, you're still winning!

Healthy Muffin Parfait with Garden Lites

New Year, New Me! Getting healthy with Jenny Craig

The new year is the perfect time to set new goals and challenge yourself to do better in every aspect of your life. For most people, including myself, health is on the top of the list. Especially after over indulging during the holidays.

How to Curl Hair Using Flatiron:

6 Yoga Bag Essentials

Recently I've been getting back to practicing yoga. I've tried many fitness routines along the years and yoga has always been the workout I gravitate and come back to. 

The purpose of yoga is to create strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body. Yoga’s focus on strength training and flexibility is an incredible benefit to your body. The postures are meant to strengthen your body from the inside out, so you don’t just look good, you feel good, too.

Each of the yoga poses is built to reinforce the muscles around the spine, the very center of your body, which is the core from which everything else operates.

 Yoga is not just about working out, it’s about a healthy lifestyle.

Whenever I get the chance, I love to wake up early and head to the beach to practice my one hour yoga and meditation session. Not only do I get to take in a breathtaking sunset, but the weather is absolutely perfect. Not too hot with a light refreshing breeze.

I make sure my yogi bag is minimalistic and simple, with just a few essentials to make my practice as mindful as possible.

My 6 Yoga Bag Essentials:

1) Water: Proper hydration is key! I prefer to take a cold small bottle of water but coconut water is also a nice option. Whichever beverage you prefer, make sure you have plenty of fluids available during and after your workout.

2) Hair Ties: This is a necessity! I sometimes see girls working out with their long flowy hair and they always look like a fitness ad model. I'm not one of those girls! I never wear makeup and my hair is always up in a ponytail or braid. The last thing I want is my hair in my face when working out. I carry at least 2 hair ties with me- just in case I lose one.

3) Small Towel: If you're anything like me, you tend to sweat during yoga. I like to keep a small towel beside me to keep dry. You can also use the towel for extra head cushion when you're laying down on your yoga mat.

4) Dry Shampoo: I only wash my hair twice a week in order to keep it shiny and healthy. Dry shampoo has been my go-to beauty essential in keeping my hair fresh during the day. No need to wash your hair and strip it from it's natural oils if you don't have to.

5) Healthy Snack: A snack is always a must when I workout (or whenever I step foot outside my house). I prefer something light but that will fuel my body after my yoga session, such as a heathy organic power bar but a granola bar, almonds or popcorn are also great choices.

#Come2Germany: Wiesbaden

My next #Come2Germany destination took me to the stunning city of Wiesbaden!

From the moment I stepped off the train, I knew I was going to love this city. The architecture and people immediately drew me in. There are certain places you travel to and for some strange reason, they feel like home.

Wiesbaden was one of them.

After I checked into my hotel, the Radisson Blue - which by the way, is the most beautiful hotel I've ever stayed in, I met up with the Wiesbaden's Marketing Director, Yvonne Skala, for dinner and drinks in the city center.

We had dinner at a cute corner restaurant called Wenzels.  I had such a great evening with her. We talked for hours about everything- life, relationships, blogging, traveling- you name it. It felt like I'd known her for years. I wished I would've taken a picture with her that night, but we were so engulfed in the conversation that I forgot to ask. Perhaps that will be my excuse to visit Wiesbaden again!

The next morning I woke up early and ventured into the city plaza. Whenever I travel, I love to walk around and explore. No set agenda. Just walk and take in as much as I can- the sights, smells and sounds.

During my little stroll, I came across a cute Farmer's market. I hadn't had breakfast yet, so the timing was perfect. It was hard to decide on what to eat with all the different cheese and bread options, but I opted for a healthy fruit juice instead.

After a few hours of sightseeing, I went back to my hotel and took a much needed nap. If you follow me on Snapchat, then you already saw how amazing my room was at the Radisson Blu. I got spoiled and was given a Junior Suite just for little ol' me! I could've  stayed in my bed all day. Thankfully, I set my alarm and woke up in time to get ready and meet up with my tour guide, Patrick, to do some evening sightseeing.

Wiesbaden is equally as beautiful in the day time as it is in the night time. There is so much history and culture found in every corner.

Our evening tour took us to Balthasar Ress for some wine tasting and light bites. Patrick and I enjoyed a private sitting area with plenty of wine and the company of the restaurant owner.

The next day was all about relaxation. I was treated to a few spa treatments, including a footbath and massage at the Radisson Blu Spa.

Wiesbaden Toursim certainly knows how to treat their guests!

From day one, I felt like a princess with their generosity and hospitality. The hotel staff was also top notch. I truly felt like a VIP.

Next stop: Baden Baden!

Baked Wonton Mozzarella Sticks

Whenever I go out to eat, and if it's on the menu, I typically order fried mozzarella sticks. They're my absolute favorite app/snack. Sadly, not the most healthiest of choices. Luckily, I found a way to still indulge in my cheesy obsession without all the unnecessary calories (and guilt).

Let me introduce you to my version of healthy cheese sticks:

Baked Wonton Mozzarella Sticks.

Instead of using regular mozzarella cheese, I incorporated Weight Watchers Light Cheese Sticks that I bought from my local Publix supermarket. I also replaced breadcrumbs for wonton wrappers and opted to bake them versus frying them in oil. With these three easy swaps you'll cut a significant amount of calories without sacrificing the taste.  

In less than 15 mins, you'll have a delicious healthier mozzarella cheese stick snack.

Make sure the cheese is frozen before placing in wonton wrapper. This will prevent the cheese from oozing out when baking.

After cheese sticks are wrapped, place in egg wash and roll them into a garlic, basil and parmesan cheese mixture (this step is optional).

Place in 400 degree oven and bake until golden brown.

Serve with your favorite marinara sauce and enjoy!

Weight Watchers Wonton Mozzarella Sticks

INGREDIENTS:

  • Mozzarella Light String Cheese Sticks (Weight Watchers)
  • Wonton wrappers
  • 1 Egg
  • Optional: Garlic, Basil, and Parmesan Cheese
  • Marinara Sauce

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. Place 1/2 frozen cheese stick on one end of an wonton wrapper. Fold in the sides, then roll it as tightly as you can, until you get to the opposite edge of the wrapper. Optional: Roll into the basil, garlic and parmesan cheese mixture.
  3. Place desired number of cheese sticks on baking sheet.
  4. Bake for about 10 minutes, remove the pan from the oven, flip over the sticks and continue baking for about 5 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Serve with marinara sauce.
