My favorite TV show, Queen of the South, is returning for a second season on Thursday, June 8th 10/9c on USA Network!
As most of you know, last year I attended the world premier of the series when I traveled to Miami for a conference. I had the opportunity to meet the cast and preview the first episode, followed by a Q&A with the actors. Since then, I've been hooked on this thrilling show!
Queen of the South tells the powerful story of Teresa Mendoza, a woman who is forced to run and seek refuge in America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico. In the process, she teams up with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run.
In other words, Teresa is a badass!
She doesn't let anything or anyone stop her.
Six years ago, I embarked on the most rewarding, difficult and amazing journey to date. A year long Round The World trip with my sister.
Many people tried to persuade us out of traveling, especially for that long period of time. Not because they didn't believe in our dream but because it wasn't "safe" for two young girls to travel the world alone.
Back then, it was not as common as it is now for girls going off and exploring the world "backpacker style" without any set plans in place.
But we didn't care. We were determinted and excited to take on this challenge!
I felt as though if we were guys, this wouldn't have been an issue but just like Teresa, we were fearless and didn't listen to the negativity around us. We spent the months before our highly anticipated trip saving up. Thankfully we were smart with our money and were able to reach our financial goal before embarking to our first destination.
After eagerly waiting for the day to come, we finally set out to the most amazing and life changing experience! My sister and I never looked back. We learned so much about ourselves and following our instincts. You are transformed after a trip like the one we took. You come back more confident and with tools that could never be learned in a school. Something we share in common with Teresa.
I'm so proud of our journey and the memories we created during our year long trip. It will forever be engraved in my mind and heart.
I'm so excited to be inspired all over again by Teresa in Season 2!
Season 2 of Queen of the South will shift its focus from highlighting Teresa’s survival instincts to showcasing her growth in the cartel underworld. Viewers will get to see Teresa come into her own as she starts to recognize her power and potential.
As Teresa learns what it takes to become the Queenpin however, she slowly realizes that ambition comes with a heavy price. Loyalties are tested, love becomes a vulnerability and moral compromises have to be made. By the end of the season, viewers will come to recognize that “there can only be one queen."
Tune in for the season 2 premier of Queen of the South, on Thursday, June 8th 10/9c on USA Network!
