When ON YOUR FEET was first released in New York, I wanted to book a ticket and watch this amazing story unfold on stage. But timing wasn't right and I never had the opportunity to go. I always told myself that one day I would watch this beautiful show live.
Luckily, I don't have to go to New York anymore. The second show from the 2017-2018 Fairwinds Broadway Series at the Dr. Philips Center, and one that I've been counting down for months, is ON YOUR FEET!
I was born in Miami and ever since I could remember, Gloria Estefan's was always present in my home. Throughout the years, any album Glorida would release, my mom would purchase it. I didn't get too familiar with the Estefan's story until Gloria suffered that horrific bus accident. Her and her husband's, Emilio, journey is not only inspiring but one I can relate to- having immigrants parents myself, I know too well the desire my parents felt for a better future for themselves and their kids.
From their humble beginnings in Cuba, Emilio and Gloria Estefan came to America and broke through all barriers to become a crossover sensation at the very top of the pop music world. But just when they thought they had it all, they almost lost everything.
From international superstardom to life-threatening tragedy, ON YOUR FEET! takes you behind the music and inside the real story of this record-making and groundbreaking couple who, in the face of adversity, found a way to end up on their feet.
Directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots), with choreography by Olivier Award winner Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and an original book by Academy Award® winner Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman), ON YOUR FEET! features some of the most iconic songs of the past quarter-century — and one of the most inspiring stories in music history.
ON YOUR FEET will be playing at the Dr. Phillips Center from October 17-22. Get your tickets here.
Want to put on your dancing shoes? Take the ON YOUR FEET Master Class featuring beginning to intermediate level Latin flavored jazz, taking place October 18th from 4:30-6pm. Hurry, space is limited. Tickets for the dance class can be purchased here.
I received complimentary show tickets but all opinions are my own.
