What Lifts You: Street Art

New York

On my recent trip to New York, I visited the "What Lifts You" street art mural created by up and coming pen and ink artist, Kelsey Montague.

Montague's piece of street art is located between Kenmare and Mott St. in Manhattan's NoLita neighborhood. Combined with the hashtag #whatliftsyou, the artwork depicting angel wings is a strong statement about positivity and empowerment.

"Your wings already exist, all you have to do is fly"

She created the wings with the hashtag #whatliftsyou, in hopes it would inspire people to interact with one another and share what inspires them.

What a creative way to spread such a beautiful message.

I love the attention to detail on the wings. If you look closely, you can see New York city and what it represents to her and to many, on both sides.

"I was so excited but pretty damn nervous when I first started. The wall seemed impossibly big and just flat out overwhelming, but starting is always the hardest part right? It got easier once I dove into it." Kelsey explained.

Watch as Kelsey creates this masterpiece and talks about the concept behind her vision.

Kelsey has been busy replicating these wings all over the world. Her latest creations can be seen in Colorado and Costa Rica, with more to come.

If you get the chance to view these wings and post your picture on social media, make sure to use the hashtag, #whatliftsyou, in order to include your picture to this rapidly growing online community.

Visit Kelsey's blog to see more behind the scene pictures and to catch up with her latest and future projects.

If you'd like to purchase her artwork, check out her Etsy shop.

Such a simple question but with so much beauty and power behind it.

Update: Thank you so much Kelsey for viewing the post. I'm beyond thrilled you liked it :)
